The help text from the FAQ section on the www.socialengine.net website is a bit vague on how to change text that is on the home page or other static text sections. In the admin section you go down to the Layout settings area then click on Language settings.

This is where they stop telling you how to get to your files. You must then click on the [ edit phrases ] link on the right side of the page. Then you will be taken to a list of text clippings. You can search by text or by field id. Two of the most common ones are the Title which is editable as phrase ID 642 and the Description is phrase ID 1156, and the home page intro is ID 657.

What I’d wanted to do is display the comments without the viewer having to click “1 comment” or “2 comments” and take them to another page. Your theme has this code in some or all of these files: index.php, single.php, archives.php.

To display the full comment and option to reply instead of the “click for comments” link.

In the appropriate file, replace the code that looks something like this:

I wanted to have a page that people could get to from a URL only and if you make the page private in the admin option then this will remove the page from the menu, and you will be able to access it by entering the URL. However take note that when you log out you will not be able to see the page contents. This also goes for you users.

So if you want to publish a page that public people can see full content from just hitting a URL then you need to publish it and then exclude it from the navigational function. Find your function.php and then modify the code. Wordpress creates the menu with this function: wp_list_pages();

You can either remove that function and add your own links, or add the “exclude” argument to wp_list_pages(); like this: wp_list_pages(‘exclude=1,2,39′);

The numbers are the page id’s. You can find the page id from the manage pages section of your wordpress blog admin. This method however did not work for me as my nav menu have a drop down ability. So I had to code it like this.

wp_list_pages(‘include=1,2,39&title_li=’);

In the settings tab you are allowed to change the home page URL. However this will break your wordpress site. It auto redirect both the front and back end pages. You can not log back and and fix it. You must go into your MySQL database and change the table field. You must go to the wp_options table and then the siteurl field and change it back.

Also on a side note if you want to make a sub page your blog page and not the home page you can also do this in the settings. Go to the reading tab and then create a page, it will be blank, then select it the post page field.

I recently had to buy a plane ticket. I found some conflicting information on the internet about what day is best to buy your ticket. I studied it for days. It does not seem that any one day or time is great. Some people have suggested Tuesday or Wednesday, but it does not hold up these days. The airlines makes changes on the fly. I found that they know when high traffic trends are and raise prices during those periods.

Sometimes you can find a flight that is less than two weeks out and get a good deal. Most of the websites that sell tickets are usually fairly close in price. Some will hide tax information until the end to make it look less, until you check out.

My advice is to just shop it for as long as you can, then just purchase the ticket. Its not likely to change a lot as the airlines know the going prices. Also note that if you plan on travel and then not 100% sure when you might return then buy a flexible ticket or just a one way ticket. Most airlines will not be flexible on your return date changes.

If you watch closely Best Buy has been selling new Nikon D200’s for $599.00 plus tax and shipping. They list their sale on or about the 15th of the month for the last . They only run it for 48 hours. I caught the last one and bought it. The D200 is a great camera for that price point. I had my eye on a D90 but it still $900 and does not have a sealed body. Plus they say the video capabilities are just about worthless. If you set you home page to DealMac.com it will tell you when this deal comes back around plus of course lots of other great deals. I have also found many compact flash memory card deals.

Adobe has a problem with Flash version 10 that is included in CS4. Its a major problem and they know about it but have yet to release a fix for it. The problem is that the application will run really slow if your scene has a lot of key frames in it. I have had to go back to using flash version 9 that came with my CS3 to develop any flash movies with any complexity to them. I have run Flash CS4 on both Dual G5 and on Dual intel chips sets. Both have lots of RAM. The intel is a bit faster but still too slow to use in a professional manor. Its quite unprofessional in my opinion to have this product out for more than 6 months and not have a fix for this problem. If you find a good camera deal online then know some of these pitfalls. The digital SLR camera deals that are too good to be true work like this. First of all they are going to sell you a Non-USA model of camera. This is not so bad but Nikon or Canon USA will not repair it under warranty. So if you choose this route then do get a third party warranty. I personally like SquareTrade Ok but we are not done yet. These “gray market” dealers will only be selling you the body alone. They will pull out the battery, the charger, and even the camera strap. They then will try to sell you these back at a very high price. The good news is you can buy them off of ebay for much less. If you tell them this then they most likely will tell you the camera is not in stock and not complete the sale. Also be carefull of buying from a place that does not show you their address and phone number. I have heard of people getting burned from filling out an order form online and having their card charged and never recieve a camera.
