I finally upgraded to the world of G5 macintoshes. I found a good deal on a 2GHZ G5 tower on craigslist. When I picked it up it only had a paltry 1gig of RAM. I remember the days when a 4meg 30pin simm was something special. I looked up my new machine on macsales.com a nice place for mac upgrades. It turns out there were 3 G5 tower models. Two use 3200 DIMMS and one uses the 4400 DIMMS. The shocking part is that the 3200 DIMMS are twice the price as 4400 DIMMS. It cost me $112

Blizzard Entertainment, owners of World of Warcraft, announced on Jan 22 that the game now has more than 10 million paying subscribers around the world. Online gameplay costs an average of $15 USD per month or about 12 pounds in the UK. That’s a huge amount to make each month in subscriptions. Blizzard is hiring by the way.
Blizzard said today that those 10 million paying subscribers include 5.5 million players in Asia, 2.5 million in the US and 2 million in Europe. They said this number only includes active players but I think the internet cafe users, especially in Asia would tend to skew that figure considerably. Not to mention the fact that Chinese Gold farms primarily exist not for game play but to feed the lack of patience for US players who buy in game gold from them. Due to the economics of buying in game gold in real life its now a necessity to keep up with the inflation. Thus continuing to feed the Chinese gold farmers. So its like 5 million players supporting the other 5 million players.
For readers unfamiliar with WoW, there’s a lot of video on YouTube, including the following parody of Weird Al’s “That’s Your Horoscope Today”. It’s not the catchiest tune but it’s a good tour of what goes on in the game and it’s been viewed more than 4 million times. When you build software that becomes a platform for user generated content all about your software – then you’re in a pretty sweet spot.

Yesterday was my birthday and I got to thinking about life…
It seems to me that everything that happens to you in life can be described as:
1.) A consequence of prior choice.
2.) A result of pure chance.
3.) 1+2.
But the catch 22 is this… Something might happen to you that’s a result of pure chance. But the way you react to it means you may well someday have to deal with the consequence of your prior choice.
So your life experience is really a sum total of your reactions to chance. The family you were born into, your gender, the year you were born, the schools you went through, the people you meet.
It does seem we are in control of the choices we have, and some people can naturally make better choices than others. But the maddening part of it all is that even negative consequences can come form good intentioned choices.
Man, if I were to talk to God face to face today, what could I show for my choices?
